About Atlas Orthogonal Chiropractic Care or AO

Dr. Roy Sweat, the developer of the Atlas Orthogonal Program, and considered by many to be one of the foremost authorities in the world on the cervical spine, devised a method using a percussion wave to re-position the atlas vertebra. The history of treating the atlas dates back to the early 1900's when Dr. B.J. Palmer, the developer of chiropractic, spent many years of clinical research in discovering that it was the atlas that controlled the position of the head and the resulting position of the rest of the spine. Dr. Sweat invented and engineered a highly advanced instrument that without pain or pressure is able to accurately re-position the atlas vertebra (image of instrument on right). Over the years, Dr. Sweat has had much of his research documented and published in scientific journals showing its effectiveness.

About Dr. Corsello & His Techniques

Dr. Corsello is not your ordinary chiropractor. What differentiates him from other chiropractors is that he specializes in Atlas Orthogonal Chiropractic (AO), which is a very precise, gentle, and non-manipulative type of treatment. Dr. Corsello is currently 1 of 4 doctors in the state of CT who is certified with this technique. Only the first vertebrae (your Atlas) in your spine is adjusted (he will adjust other vertebrae if necessary with an activator in some cases). There is no cracking, popping, or twisting at all. Dr. Corsello is also a licensed acupuncturist and is certified in the Active Release Techniques.

The AO technique has been shown to be highly effective with not only neck or back pain, but also headaches, vertigo, dizziness, asthma, allergies, fatigue, fibromyalgia, carpel tunnel, ear infections, osteoarthititis, neurobehavioral issues, muscle tension and more.

The Atlas Orthogonal Percussion Adjusting Instrument (pictured below) is a very precise machine that ONLY adjusts your atlas using percussion or a sound wave (some call vibration), so you actually will not feel any pain or force.

First, Dr. Corsello uses x-rays or radiographic views to determine the severity of your spinal misalignment and treatment. Second, Dr. Corsello perform an analysis of your x-rays to determine the treatment. After the first treatment he will conduct post diagnostic imaging to ensure your spine was properly aligned and that a positive change occured. After your first treatment, you will be given a care plan. If in subsequent visits you hold your alignment, an Atlas Orthogonal treatment will not be needed. However, secondary care and treatments such as therapy may be utilized to help you with your pain and discomfort while you recover. For further information, give us a call today!
